ACE Names Howard S. Schrader Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Its International Insurance Business
NEW YORKNovember 23, 2009 view pdf version

The ACE Group today announced the promotion of Howard S. Schrader to Executive Vice President and General Counsel of ACE’s Overseas General operations, responsible for the delivery of all legal services to ACE’s property and casualty and accident and health insurance units outside of North America.  This expands his scope of responsibility from the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions currently to include ACE’s 26-country presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  Mr. Schrader will continue to be based in New York and reports to John Keogh, CEO of ACE’s Overseas General operations, and Robert Cusumano, General Counsel, ACE Limited.

“Howard has demonstrated his ability to navigate the complicated legal terrain of our overseas operations, and has become a trusted partner and advisor for our businesses in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions,” said Mr. Keogh. “We look forward to his counsel across our full international footprint as we continue to develop our insurance businesses around the world.”

Mr. Schrader joined ACE in 2008 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Asia Pacific, Far East (Japan) and Latin America regions.  Previously, he was with DLA Piper LLP in New York, where he provided counsel to ACE on a range of matters as well as to major U.S. insurers and foreign companies engaged in securities, contract and mergers-and-acquisitions litigation.  Prior to DLA Piper, he was a partner with Coblence & Warner in New York, where he dealt with insurance litigation, cross-border transactions and securities law.

Mr. Schrader earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a juris doctorate from the Columbia University School of Law.  He is admitted to the bar in New York and for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, a number of U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also a member of the board of directors of Open Door Family Medical Centers, Inc., in Westchester County, New York, and he serves as the director of that organization's foundation.
