ACE Tempest Reinsurance Ltd. (ACE Tempest Re) today announced that it has donated $25,000 to the Hurricane Fabian relief fund. The fund coordinated by the National Office for Seniors has been providing aid to seniors whose homes were damaged during Hurricane Fabian in September.
Mr. Chris McKeown, President and Chief Executive Officer of ACE Tempest Re presented a cheque to Dr. Melvin Dickinson, Manager of the National Office for Seniors and Minister Patrice Minors, JP, MP Minister of Health and Family Services today at 3.30pm at Cabinet office.
The funds donated by ACE Tempest Re were originally earmarked for the company’s tenth anniversary party, scheduled for late September at the Fairmont Southampton Princess. However, the party was subsequently cancelled as a result of Hurricane Fabian.
"ACE Tempest Re was established as a property catastrophe reinsurer in 1993 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, and we were planning a company-wide celebration in recognition of our tenth year in business," explained Chris McKeown, President and Chief Executive Officer of ACE Tempest Re.
"As a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Fabian, we thought that the funds budgeted for our anniversary celebrations could be better spent helping the community in which we live and work. To help ameliorate the plight of our seniors, we decided to donate the funds to the National Office for Seniors who are doing an outstanding job helping the elderly in our community."
Dr. Dickinson, Manager of the National Office for Seniors, added, "We are extremely grateful to ACE Tempest Re for its support. These funds will be put to good use helping seniors throughout Bermuda. Funding for the Hurricane Fabian restoration operation is an ongoing challenge and the National Office for Seniors appreciates all offers of assistance from the community."
ACE Tempest Re’s donation will be used to cover the cost of general clean-up, restoration and rebuilding work on seniors homes, many of which sustained severe damage to walls as well as roofs during the hurricane.
